Kanya and her family returned to Phanat Nikhom on Saturday, so Eid and I didn’t go to the Internet café over the weekend. Now that we’re back in Chiang Mai, I can post some of the photos I took while we were offline.
These photos were actually taken a week ago, during our visit to the big temple where we met the Burmese woman who gave Eid’s mother a crocheted scarf. While we were there, we also went into a part of the temple where you can apply gold leaf to Buddha images (yet another form of merit-making). Eid showed Kanya how it’s done, but they both managed to get flakes of gold on themselves in the process. But it’s not just toddlers who have trouble with this delicate task: Clueless middle-aged farang can also make a mess of it, and end up with golden thumbprints.
