All the lovely ladies

On Sunday afternoon, we went to a famous temple in a neighboring province. It’s mostly famous for improving on the 50-50 odds of having a male child: People hoping to have a son come here from all over central Thailand, and if they get their wish, they make a big donation. Not surprisingly, the temple has accumulated loads of money over the years, which has created a lot of conflict. Eid’s mother likes to visit because she came here nearly 50 years ago, before Oad, Eid’s brother, was born, but she generally shuns the opulent, cathedral-like main building. (The woman on the far left is Kanya’s mother; the woman holding Kanya by the shoulders of her shirt is Nid, Eid’s younger sister.)
